After Reverend Zizelmann returned to San Antonio in 1856 and formed a congregation in 1857, the first permanent home for

St. John's was built in 1860.

The cornerstone was inscribed "Gott Allein Die Ehre",

meaning "To God Alone the Glory."

The Archives Committee has been hard at work to make

the first records of our church available to all.

The following documents are a work in progress.

The documents have been transcribed

from the original records books of the church.

The earlier books were written

in the old German script handwriting,

some of which are very difficult to decipher.

Please keep this in mind as you do your research.

Click on any of the links below for more information

about the founding families of St. John's.

The following files were created from microfilm images

of the original record books.  Please be aware that these are very large files and will take quite a while to download.
